The CellarFarm is an urban community initiative that was inspired by urban farming and using the empty cellars of the city center apartment buildings of Pest. The CellarFarm is a hydroponic farm growing green leafy vegetables like lettuce, Swiss chard and spinach. The idea was conceived in 2021 in the middle of downtown Pest, in Veres Palne street. The CellarFarm was supported by the seed money won with the 1st prize in the Sustainability category of OTP Business Condominium Call for Proposal and was also supported by the Local Government of the 5th District Belváros-Lipótváros.

The CellarFarm is a project where technological innovation such as hydroponic farming grows green leafy vegetables in urban settings and strengthens community and neighbourhood relations. The CellarFarms explores the optimization of hydroponic farming for condominiums, collects and analyses experiences about urban food production with short supply chains, and the financing practices of local green innovations of similar kind by local governments and wider societal adaptation.
